Allowing multiple entries on a custom Info Manager tab.

Allowing multiple entries on a custom Info Manager tab.

Custom tabs built in the Form Generator come in two varieties: single-entry tabs, which hold one current set of values, and multi-entry (tabular) tabs, which let you add as many separate records as you need. If you are trying to add a second record to a tab and there is no Add option, the tab was created as single-entry.

How to tell which type your tab is.

Open any location and go to your custom tab:

  • A multi-entry tab has an Add option at the top, and saved records are listed one below another.
  • A single-entry tab has only the fields themselves. On a tab with no data saved yet, you can type directly into the text boxes and click Save. The Modify and Delete options only appear once a valid entry exists.

The key constraint.

Multi-entry is set when the tab is first created and cannot be switched on afterwards from the Form Generator screen. This is why you will not find the setting on an existing tab.

You have two ways forward:

Option 1 — Rebuild the tab

Create a new tab in Admin > Information Manager > Manage Form Generator, and on the creation screen set multi-input = yes and select tabular. Rebuild your fields on the new tab, then deactivate the old one.

Option 2 — Contact Support

Support can enable multiple entries on an existing tab directly. This is the only part of the configuration that cannot be changed from the screen, so it is worth asking if the tab already holds data you would rather not rebuild.

Note that once a tab is live — whether or not it holds data — the changes you can make to it from the front end are limited.

Adding a field to an existing tab.

  1. Go to Admin > Information Manager > Manage Form Generator.
  2. Open the tab you want to change.
  3. Click Add Field and enter the field name and field type.
  4. Click Save.

You can then drag the field into whatever position you prefer.

Why the Delete option is missing on a tab.

A tab can only be deleted once every field on it has been removed. This is a safety check, not a permission problem with your account.

To delete a tab:

  1. In Manage Form Generator, open the tab.
  2. Delete each of its fields: open the field's action menu and choose Delete.
  3. Return to the tab list. The Delete option will now appear on that tab's row.
  4. Click it and confirm.

Removing the fields first does not put any saved information at risk — if the tab holds records, delete the records before the fields.
