Control which countries your Twilio account can text, and buy the phone numbers you need for SMS in FranConnect.
You need to be signed in to the Twilio account you want to change. A new account can only message your home country — the one matching the phone number you verified at signup.
Why Geo Permissions matter
Twilio can reach many countries, but leaving them all open exposes you to SMS pumping fraud — so Twilio recommends disabling any destination country your business doesn't use or uses rarely.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps to set Twilio geo permissions and purchase a number
Open Geo Permissions
In the Twilio Console, go to Messaging › Settings › Geo Permissions.
Enable or disable countries
Use Filter by Country to find a country (or scroll the list by continent), tick or untick its checkbox, then save your changes.
Search for a phone number
Open Buy a Number in the Console, set your criteria and click Search.
- Country — pick from the drop-down
- Capabilities — the services you need on the number
- Search Criteria — digits, area code, prefix, phrases or characters
- Advanced — number type (local, mobile, toll-free), address requirements, emergency calling and beta numbers
Buy the number
Review the results — number, location, type, capabilities and price — then click Buy, or Refresh results for more options.
Many countries require identity documentation for phone-number compliance — you'll be asked to supply it after clicking Buy. Check Twilio's Phone Number Regulations site for which countries and number types are affected.
A2P 10DLC registration is required to send SMS or MMS to US numbers from a US local number. Complete Twilio's A2P registration before you start messaging.
