FranConnect uses the Location IQ API to show addresses on maps across the platform, and Location IQ is powered by OpenStreetMap (OSM) as its underlying database. If a location looks wrong on the platform, the cause is usually outdated or missing data in OpenStreetMap — which you can fix yourself.
OSM is a free, community-driven world map that anyone can edit. Contributions are reviewed by the OSM community and, once approved, become part of the live map.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps to add/update an address on OpenStreetMap
Sign up for an OpenStreetMap account
Go to openstreetmap.org and click Sign Up in the top-right corner, then enter your email address, choose a display name and set a password — or sign in with one of the third-party options.
Use Log In, next to Sign Up in the top-right corner. A step-by-step guide then walks you through the available options and points you to further resources.
Enter edit mode
Click Edit in the top-left corner to open the iD Editor.
To change the background, click the Layers icon on the right — from there you can switch overlays and pick the view that works best for you.
Add your store as a point
At the top you'll see an Add Feature toolbar. Navigate to the correct area, zoom in for a clear view, select Point and click the exact spot where the marker belongs.

Fill in the place details
A blank pin appears and a panel opens on the left, starting with the Type of place.
For an independent restaurant you'd choose the Restaurant feature and fill in the details. A chain such as Starbucks already has a predefined label — just select it. You can then add cuisine type, opening hours, exact address, website and more.
Save and upload your contribution
Review your changes carefully, click the Save icon in the top-right corner, add comments describing your edits and cite your sources in the left panel, then click Upload.
Tick I would like someone to review my edits and an experienced community member will verify your updates before they are published.
Move an existing location
Sign in and enter edit mode as above, zoom to your store, then click Edit in the top-left corner to start making changes.
Right-click the point, choose Move from the toolbar, drag across the map to the correct spot and click to drop it.
Correct the address, then save
Click the location pointer, open the Address section in the left panel and make your changes, then click Save in the top-right corner.
Add comments and sources in the left panel, then click Upload. Once reviewed and approved, your changes are published to the OSM database.
Good practice for OSM edits
Do not copy from or depend on Google Maps or any other proprietary or copyright-protected source. OSM data is published under the Open Database License, which requires contributors to disclose and share any data they add or create.
Cross-check your edits against existing OSM data; include as much detail as possible so others have clear context; follow local mapping conventions such as correct street labelling; be courteous to other contributors and open to feedback; and ask for help if you're unsure about any part of the process.
When will the change reach FranConnect?
Once you add or edit a location in OpenStreetMap, Location IQ updates its database through the API to reflect the change, so the correct location then appears in FranConnect.
