Navigating Languages

Although the Languages tool is used to control huge amounts of information, the navigation in the tool is rather simple, with only three main levels of page hierarchy to become familiar with. These three page types account for the ability to access and modify all phrases in any of the languages in your platform.

Language Index

This is the initial view when opening the Languages tool. Its main purpose is to present a list of all the languages that are currently available on the platform, and a number of common content management functions on its right. Note that the English language is unique in this table, as it cannot be deleted or have its name edited.

Language Index

This view also contains a number of buttons along the top, allowing you to create a new language, and search for a phrase.

Clicking on the name of a language from the list will take you to the Section View for that language.

Section View

This view consists of a simple list of sections that the changeable phrases of the platform have been divided into, with the number of phrases per section listed on the right-hand side of the table.

Section View

Many of these sections correspond to individual tools of the platform, as well as other elements and modules in the platform that require phrases, but do not form part of any specific tool.

Phrase View

When a section is selected from the previous view, a list of the phrases belonging to that section will appear on the page. This is presented in a table with three main columns.

Phrase View

The first column holds the phrase as it currently appears for the English language, the second column contains editable text areas, pre-populated with the phrase as it currently exists for the selected language, and the third column contains an English description of the usage of the phrase.

This second column containing the current phrase for the language is used to change the phrase. Simply make changes to the phrase(s) found in this view, and click the Update button. The change will take effect immediately for users using the updated language.
