How to Create Custom Fields and Configure Dependent Questions in Sales Web Forms

1 min read

Overview

If you're creating a web form and the field you need is not available in the existing list of fields, FranConnect allows you to create custom fields and add them to your form. However, while web forms do not support conditional logic that dynamically shows or hides fields based on user responses, you can use dependent fields to present different options based on a previous selection.

Creating a New Custom Field

To create a new field:

  1. Navigate to Admin > Sales > Manage Form Generator.
  2. Select the tab where you want to add the field (for example, Primary Info).
  3. Click Add New Field.
  4. Configure the field as needed and save it.

Once the field has been created, it becomes available within the form builder and can be dragged directly into the form layout.

Configuring Dependent Questions

Understanding the Limitation

FranConnect web forms do not currently support traditional conditional logic or dynamic field visibility.

For example, if you create a question such as:

Will the applicant have a partner?

The system cannot automatically hide or display additional fields based on whether the applicant selects Yes or No.

However, you can achieve similar functionality by using dependent fields.

How Dependent Fields Work

Dependent fields allow the available options in one field to be controlled by the selection made in another field.

To configure this:

  1. Create a parent field.
  2. Create a dependent field.
  3. Link the dependent field to the parent field.

Example Setup

For this example:

  • Daniel's Test Field 1 = Parent Field
  • Daniel's Test Field 2 = Dependent Field

Step 1: Create the Parent Field

Create the first field and configure the available options.

Example:

  • Option 1 (Yes)
  • Option 2 (No)

Step 2: Create the Dependent Field

When creating the second field:

  1. Select the Dependent option.
  2. The Parent Field setting will appear.
  3. Select the first field you created previously as the parent.
  4. Configure which values should be available when a specific parent option is selected.

Example Behavior

When "Yes" Is Selected

If the user selects Option 1 (Yes) in the parent field, the dependent field becomes active and displays its configured options.

When "No" Is Selected

If the user selects Option 2 (No) in the parent field, the dependent field remains available, but no dependent options are presented because none have been configured for that selection.

Key Takeaways

  • Custom fields can be created through Admin > Sales > Manage Form Generator.
  • Newly created fields become available in the form builder and can be added to any web form.
  • FranConnect web forms do not support dynamic show/hide conditional logic.
  • Dependent fields can be used to control which options are available based on a previous selection.
  • To use dependent fields, create a parent field first, then configure a second field as Dependent and link it to the parent field.
