Trainee Eligibility

A user may be eligible for government funding if they fulfill certain criteria. The criteria take into consideration:

Their hours worked per week

  • Length of time worked at the company
  • Accepted visa
  • Enrolment in a prior qualification
  • Whether they are at school


Eligibility Types

There are 5 possible eligibility types for the Training Academy:

  1. New Worker
  2. Existing Worker
  3. Part-time New Worker
  4. Pare-time Existing Worker
  5. Scholl-based Worker 

Configuration Settings

Administrators can change global Training Academy settings in System Configuration → Training Academy Configuration

  • When Auto-eligibility funding is enabled, all users who pass the eligibility check are allowed for government-sponsored training.
  • Eligibility override, when enabled, will allow managers & RTO admins to override the user's eligibility type.
  • Trainee Decline, when enabled, will allow users to choose not to apply for the Training Academy.

Note: When all eligibility types besides Fee For Service are disabled, all Training Academy fields will be hidden from the account's 'My Details' page.

Eligibility Check

User eligibility is checked in the following scenarios:

  1. Each night, as part of the platform's daily tasks.
  2. When their account is created or updated.
  3. If they have been rolled over for a qualification.
  4. If the settings for the Training Academy have been updated in System Configuration → Training Academy Configuration.

Note: Only General Manager level accounts or lower are able to apply for the Training Academy.

Accepted Visa Types:

New Zealand passport holders who have been residency in Australia for at least 6 months Foreign national with Trade Skills Training Visa (subclass 471). Visa expiry cannot be prior to the end date of the traineeship/apprenticeship; the visa must be valid for the full duration of the proposed course
